1. Consultation – Before the book cover design process can start, we need to know a few things about your book. The book cover should give an insight into what your book is about, without giving too much away. I should speak to the type of person you want to appeal to. You wouldn’t want a thriller to look like a kids book and vice versa. This can be when we have our editor read the manuscript to come up with market segments, or if you already have an idea of your market, you can supply an outline and synopsis with information that is relevant about characters, genre, and so forth.

This is about discovery. We need to find the heart of the story, and find a way to convey to your audience that this book is for them. Once we have clear ideas about your story, we will come up with ideas for your cover art, and we can go on to the next step.

2. Concept Development – The next step of the project is concept development. At this stage we have locked in the genre for your book, and know how to appeal to your readers. We will start by sketching book cover ideas, and coming up with a strong concept for your book cover design.

Depending on how used you are to this stage of development, we can show you rough sketches, or wait till we have a finished product. If you are used to being part of the design process, you may be used to seeing development sketches, but if you aren’t it can be off-putting see sketches that aren’t finished. This is something we usually discuss in the first step, during consultation.

3. Design & Review. – At this point your custom book cover is starting to take shape, we have locked in the designs, and refined them more. We will usually provide one or two draft book cover designs for your approval – or we can use our market research to provide you with the one we know will perform the best for your book.

We will look at the title, and how we can grab attention of your potential readers, we will consider white space, and colour palette. We can use your own images in some circumstances, all of which will add to your dream book cover! And we endeavour to make the entire process as painless as possible.

4. Final Touches – At this point, your book cover design has been chosen, and you have provided feedback on the final design. This is when our artists get to refine your memorable cover that is going to stand out on bookshelves, and ebook stores. Our book designer will find the perfect bold typography for the entire book. We will finish the book cover designs and refine the designs into a finished piece of art.

5. Delivery – We will provide everything you need to publish or self publish your book cover design. We will provide the front cover design along with your back cover design in print ready PDF file. Our high quality design will also be provided in a range of formats including kindle, and ebook cover, and website advertising campaigns.
